During this month, many Muslims around the world celebrate Mawlid –Β Β the birthday of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad ( PBUH).Β Β Although the exact date is unknown, Sunni Muslims believe the date of the birth of Muhammad (PBUH) was on theΒ twelfth of this month, whereas Shi’a Muslims believe him to have been born on the dawn of the seventeenth day.
The Prophet (PBUH) himself never celebrated the mawlid, instead encouraged Muslims to fast Mondayβs of every week due to his birthday being βon a Mondayβ.
