US Drops COVID-19 Restrictions For International Travellers

Whilst many countries worldwide have dropped their pandemic-related entry rules, the US remained steadfast in keeping things in place. As part of their rules, it was mandatory to show proof of vaccination to enter the country.

However, things are now starting to change with international visitors no longer required to be fully vaccinated from May 11.

The decision has been made after identifying that COVID-19 deaths have declined by 95%, and hospitalisations are down nearly 91%.  What’s more, there has not been a time when COVID-deaths have been at an all-time low.

Many are surprised that the US has kept the rule in place for so long, whilst many other major tourist destinations around the world have already scrapped their pandemic-related entry regulations and restrictions.

Whilst it is not likely that this will significantly impact tourism by bringing more tourists in, it is always good to hear that a country has dropped their entry restrictions.

In a press release, the White House said, “Today, we are announcing that the Administration will end the COVID-19 vaccine requirements for Federal employees, Federal contractors, and international air travelers at the end of the day on May 11, the same day that the COVID-19 public health emergency ends. Additionally, HHS and DHS announced today that they will start the process to end their vaccination requirements for Head Start educators, CMS-certified healthcare facilities, and certain noncitizens at the land border. In the coming days, further details related to ending these requirements will be provided.”
