Ruhaniyat – A Soulful Symphony of Sufi Spirit

On 10 July 2025, Manchester’s Aviva Studios will host the world premiere of Ruhaniyat (روحانیت) an orchestral Sufi experience that fuses the ecstatic mysticism of qawwali with the sweeping grandeur of classical music.

Composed by Rushil RanjanRuhaniyat features the powerful vocals of Jyoti Nooran and a stirring performance by the Manchester Camerata, conducted by Melvin Tay.

In the heart of Manchester, on the evening of 10 July 2025, a musical journey unlike no other will unfold at Aviva Studios. Ruhaniyat, meaning ‘spirituality’ in Arabic, promises to be a transcendent experience, blending the soulful rhythms of qawwali with the rich textures of orchestral music.

At the helm of this groundbreaking performance is Rushil Ranjan, a self-taught, critically acclaimed composer and producer renowned for his ability to bridge diverse musical traditions. Co-founder of the Orchestral Qawwali Project, Ranjan has captivated audiences worldwide by fusing Sufi poetry, Indian classical dance, and orchestral arrangements. His recent work, Māyā, a collaboration with Manchester Camerata, explored the depths of Carnatic music, further solidifying his reputation as a pioneer in cross-cultural musical fusion.

For Ruhaniyat, Ranjan collaborates with Manchester Camerata, one of the UK’s most adventurous orchestras, known for its innovative approach to classical music. Together, they will present a vibrant fusion of Sufi sounds and classical arrangements, creating a sonic tapestry that transcends cultural boundaries.

Adding to the evening’s allure is the legendary Jyoti Nooran, renowned for her powerful voice and emotive performances. As one half of the iconic Nooran Sisters, Jyoti has revitalised Punjabi Sufi music, bringing it to global audiences. Her presence in Ruhaniyat is set to elevate the performance, infusing it with authenticity and depth.

The performance is part of the Manchester International Festival 2025, a celebration of boundary-pushing art and culture.Ruhaniyat stands out as a testament to the festival’s commitment to showcasing diverse artistic expressions.

Tickets for this extraordinary event are available at factoryinternational.org, with affordable options to ensure accessibility for all. For those requiring additional assistance, the venue offers wheelchair access and essential companion tickets.

But Ruhaniyat is not a continuation, it’s a transformation. This is a bold evolution of the form: a richly textured, emotionally charged exploration of divine love, longing, and liberation. Expect haunting vocals, intricate rhythms, and orchestral arrangements that lift the spirit and stir the soul.

“I’m so thrilled to be bringing Ruhaniyat to life with Jyoti Nooran, whose voice has long inspired me, and with my friends at Manchester Camerata — collaborators who truly understand how to push musical boundaries while staying rooted in feeling and form. This piece is incredibly close to my heart, and I can’t wait to share it with audiences for the first time.”
