Out & About: 3 Cultural Events to Add to Your Diary

From community arts festivals and royal art auctions to a summer-long celebration of Black music, here are three standout events taking place across the UK this season.

1. Celebrate 25 Years of MKIAC at Art in the Park

Milton Keynes Islamic Arts and Culture (MKIAC) marks its 25th anniversary with the return of its flagship event, Art in the Park, taking place on 6 June 2026 at Campbell Park.

This year’s festival explores the theme of “Transition”, reflecting both MKIAC’s remarkable journey over the past quarter-century and the continuing evolution of Milton Keynes itself. Visitors can enjoy a packed programme of live performances, creative workshops, storytelling sessions and interactive community arts activities.

Festival highlights include the colourful Parade of Colour, live music and dance performances, a special book launch by author Nadia Khan, and the thought-provoking symposium Dance Histories: A Journey Across the Muslim Silk Road.

Welcoming more than 12,000 visitors each year, Art in the Park remains one of the city’s most vibrant celebrations of creativity, culture and community. Image credit – Olympic Auctions.

2. A Rare Royal Masterpiece Goes Under the Hammer

Art collectors and history enthusiasts have a unique opportunity this June as a rare painting by Queen Farida of Egyptcomes up for auction in London.

Featured in Olympia Auctions’ Modern & Contemporary African and Middle Eastern Art SaleAbstract Landscapeoffers a glimpse into the artistic legacy of one of Egypt’s most fascinating royal figures. Following the fall of the Egyptian monarchy, Queen Farida devoted herself to painting, creating works that reflected her personal reinvention and creative vision.

As paintings by Queen Farida seldom appear on the market, this auction represents a significant moment for collectors of Middle Eastern art and royal memorabilia alike.

3. Make Music is Black Festival Your Summer Soundtrack

Festival dates include:

  • 13–14 June
  • 11–12 July
