Five Tips To Save You Energy At Home

With the rise in costs in almost everything, it’s time we start thinking about how we can offset costs within our own homes. Habits are habits and they’ll remain habits until we take a close look and start making changes today. Whilst there’s not much we can do with the rises in prices, there’s a lot that we are in control of which can help in saving and ensuring that we don’t pay more than we need to.

Start Using LED Bulbs

More and more people are becoming aware that traditional bulbs are just not fit for the current times. Not only do they cost more to keep on, but they are also a lot more inefficient than LED bulbs. By investing in LED bulbs, you’ll be saving on energy as they use only a fraction of the electricity in comparison to normal bulbs. What’s more, they look great and can be switched on and off using your phone.

By switching to LED bulbs, you could be making a saving of £35 a year on energy bills!

Be Careful With The Kettle

It is estimated that 95% of all households in the UK have a kettle at home! Putting the kettle on for a nice cup of tea is one of the most common activities in a British household. For that reason, it becomes more important to do so carefully.

Did you know that by filling the kettle right up you cause the energy levels to go up? It is estimated that £68 million worth of energy is wasted yearly due to kettles being filled right to the top. Next time try filling your kettle just to the level you need and see the difference it makes to your energy prices.

Unplug Your Devices

It goes without saying that unplugging your devices when not in use is one of the most effective ways of cutting back on using energy. Many households leave their appliances on standby mode which can add up in the end. Did you know that you can save about £60 a year by turning off the appliances and devices on standby mode? Over-charging is also a huge problem and can cause your energy prices to rise and your device to become faulty. By unplugging when fully charged, you’ll be saving energy and increasing battery life.

Cut Back On Those Long Showers

If you fancy saving about £70 a year on your energy bills, reconsider how long you’re willing to spend in the shower. By spending five minutes or under in the shower, you have the chance to make massive savings on your energy bills. Think about switching the shower off when shampooing or applying shower gel. What’s more, consider swapping your shower head for a more water-efficient one which can save you around £30 a year on water bills and around £20 on your energy bill!

Limit Your Laundry & Give Up The Tumble Dryer

Many of us get carried away with doing a number of washes per week. Sometimes it’s just convenient and at times it’s about that last-minute event you have to attend. Whatever the case, thinking proactively and doing one wash per week can save you around £28 on your

energy bill. You can go a step further by air-drying your clothes, which gives you the chance to save a further £35 a year on your energy bills.
