Muslim Tech Leaders Share Their Stories at Muslim Tech Festival

For the first time ever, a group of tech-minded Muslims gathered together to make history. Muslamic Makers, who are a community of Muslim Changemakers helping Muslims level up across the tech industry and beyond, arranged a superb event which saw Muslims with tech backgrounds come together to share their stories.

From award-winning software engineers to data analysts, this event brought together some of the finest Muslim techies. The event took place in The Royal Institution in Mayfair, London and it saw Muslim researchers, engineers, start-up founders, and AI specialists not only presenting their cutting-edge research but also discussing the many challenges they faced along the way.

The event was open to anyone with an in science, technology, and innovation, and it was no surprise that it was sold out completely.

The highlight was undoubtedly the speakers who added a great deal to the experience of the many attendees.

One such person that took many by surprise was Asia Sharif. Sharif is an award-winning software engineer, public speaker and role model who reached new heights through her work in IT. Speaking about how she went from being a tech newbie to an award-winning engineer in less than 12 months, her hope was to inspire and enrich others who are in her position.

The event was all about technology, artificial intelligence, as well as cutting-edge apps that have been developed by successful young Muslims.

Rahma Javed is just another fine example. Director of Engineering at Deliveroo, Javed focuses on helping Deliveroo become the preferred partner for its grocery and driving growth and profitability for them. In a previous event organised by Muslamic Makers, Javed said, “Muslim women can bring diverse and fresh ideas to broaden the perspective of the current tech industry and the Muslim community.” She also added, “Accept and embrace your own diversity in the workplace.

Javed spoke extensively about the need to own the opportunities that come our way. She also focused on having an open mind when working in the tech industry as well as appreciating the hurdles that you may face along the way.

A highlight of the event was when Dr Ahmed Wobi gave his talk about his company, Tonus Tech and the importance of machine learning. The Oxford graduate is regarded as a leader in the tech field and is in charge of pioneering machine-learning techniques to create performance apparel that improves human longevity through mobility augmentation. After graduating with an honours degree in Neuroscience, Dr Wobi went on to specialise in Radiology. He has also been in charge of founding a diabetes startup and has immense experience in telemedicine.

A Great Event Loved By Many

Visitors from all over made it to this historic event and many were left surprised at the immense efforts behind organising this event.
