Medina , Saudi Arabia - 11 May 2017 : Green Dome Close up - Prophet Mohammed Mosque , Al Masjid an Nabawi

As the sacred month of Rabi’ al-Awwal approaches, Muslims around the world find themselves reflecting on the life and legacy of the greatest man to ever walk this earth – the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This isn’t just a historical observance. For millions, it’s a spiritual reawakening.

What is Rabi’ al-Awwal?

Rabi’ al-Awwal — the third month of the Islamic calendar, holds immense significance as it marks the birth of the Prophet ﷺ, believed to have occurred on the 12th of the month.

This year, Rabi’ al-Awwal 1447 AH is expected to begin on Sunday, August 24, 2025, with Mawlid (12th Rabi’ al-Awwal) falling on Thursday, September 4, 2025 (subject to moon sightings).

While celebrations of the Prophet’s birth vary across cultures, the essence of the month remains universal: deepening our connection with the Prophet’s teachings and embodying his mercy, compassion, and humility in our daily lives.

What Should We Read This Month?

Rabi’ al-Awwal is the perfect time to immerse ourselves in the life and legacy of the Prophet ﷺ — not only through celebration, but through study and reflection. Here are a few timeless reads to begin or revisit:

How to Make the Most of Rabi’ al-Awwal

This is more than a historical footnote — it’s a moment to live his legacy:

1. Send Salawat Daily

Increase your recitation of blessings on the Prophet ﷺ. Even a simple “Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala aali Muhammad” can reconnect hearts.

2. Learn His Story

Attend Seerah lectures, join reading circles, or set a personal goal to finish one book on the Prophet’s life by month’s end.

3. Practice His Sunnah

Revive small but meaningful Sunnahs — from using the miswak to offering a warm greeting — and carry his spirit in your everyday actions.

4. Give Generously

He was the most generous of people. Use this month to give to causes close to your heart or support someone quietly in need.

5. Reflect with Purpose

This is not just about knowing what the Prophet did — it’s about asking: How can I live like him today?

As Muslims, we’re not just inheritors of a rich history, we’re carriers of a living example. Rabi’ al-Awwal is our annual invitation to re-center ourselves around the message of the Prophet ﷺ, to not only admire his light but to become reflectors of it.

May this Rabi’ al-Awwal be a month of renewal, closeness to Allah, and sincere emulation of our beloved Prophet.
