UK Government tightens UK visa rules for 2024

The UK Home Secretary has announced new measures to reduce migration levels to the UK. The update introduces a mandatory requirement, stating that a minimum salary of £38,700—increased from £18,700—must be met. This means that individuals seeking to bring family members to the UK must earn a minimum of £38,700 annually to qualify for a visa. The implementation of this change is scheduled for Spring 2024, leaving many individuals in distress and prompting a reassessment of significant plans.

The announcement follows recent figures published by the Office of National Statistics, revealing that net migration added 672,000 people in the year ending June 2023. Additionally, the net migration figure for the year ending December 2022 was revised to 745,000, significantly surpassing earlier predictions. This has placed immense political pressure on the Government to reduce these figures.

The adjustment in migration policies may impact overseas student visa applications, potentially removing approximately 153,000 individuals from the net migration figure.

Consequently, around 300,000 people who arrived in the UK last year may face restrictions.

To address concerns, the Government has assured that individuals previously entitled to their visa at the time of grant will not be removed from the country. These new regulations signal a significant shift in immigration policies, leading affected individuals to reevaluate their future plans.
