Where is it Hot in May? Five Sunny Destinations

As we make our way through spring, the sun is starting to warm up many of our favourite destinations around the world. If you’re looking for a quick Vitamin D fix, a nice sun tan and a well-deserved break away from the landscapes of Britain, look no further as we round up five of the best sunny destinations to visit in May. 

French Polynesia

Located in the middle of nowhere, French Polynesia is the quintessential tropical getaway, especially during May. From snorkelling, swimming and admiring the diversity of the sea life on the island, French Polynesia is ideal if you’re looking to switch off and be somewhere completely remote. During May, the weather is dry and temperatures are not too warm. What’s more, with it being low season, prices for accommodation are very reasonable. Whether you’re interested in laying by the beach, diving into the crystal clear blue waters or getting lost in one of the jungles, French Polynesia is a great choice!

Malaysia (Perhentian Islands)

It may take a bit to get here, but it’s worth it when you take your first glimpse of the calm waters. With it being tedious to reach the islands, it means that those visiting will experience a lack of tourists throughout. With the staggering beauty of the still waters and glistening sandy beaches, the Perhentian Islands are also a great place to go diving or snorkelling. What’s more, with jungles nearby to the many beaches, visitors can choose to switch it up with a walk along the many hiking trails. If you do decide to change up the scenery a little, take a domestic flight to Kuala Lumpur for some awesome street food, night markets and the many tourist sites.

Mauritius

This prominent Indian Ocean Island may be known for its stunning lagoons and pristine beaches, but that’s only half the story. It’s majestic lush forests, also home to the famous sugar cane fields – once home to 18th and 19th century Indian labourers – are the real source of life for this dazzling Island. The Island’s capital really is a melting pot of different cultures, cuisines and religions. Visiting the city is nothing short of an exhilarating experience. With sites such as China Town, the Jummah Mosque and the large central Market, it provides one with a delightful contrast to the commonly visited and tranquil beaches. If you really want to experience the true personality of the Island, Port Louis is worth at least a day trip.

Malta

Did you know that May is one of the best seasons to visit in May? With the perfect balance of sunshine and a gentle breeze and with hardly any rainfall, May just be the perfect time to visit this beautiful island. With a Mediterranean climate, pristine sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, there are many good reasons to visit Malta. What’s more, with Islam and Muslims arriving in Malta over a thousand years ago, travellers will find many remnants of Islamic history and heritage. Lose yourself in the medieval Mdina, enjoy the views from the Grand Harbour or simply unwind at the beautiful and meticulously designed Palazzo Parisio and Garden.

Morocco

Morocco is known for its diverse landscapes, ranging from the Atlas Mountains to the breathing views of the Atlantic Ocean. What’s more, as Morocco is steeped in history, the country is filled with world heritage sites and landmarks. Head over to the magical Jema al-Fenaa for a taste of some of the finest that the city has to offer. We also recommend heading over to the coastal city of Essaouira which is a port city which rests on the coast of Morocco offering some of the best views of the Atlantic Ocean. For a change of environment, we recommend heading over to Fez. Considered the oldest of Morocco’s four imperial capitals, Fez is as medieval as it gets when it comes to the Arab/African world.
