Wonder Woman Tasneem Habib To Climb K2 This Summer

Bradford-based Tasneem Habib is stepping out on possibly her greatest-ever challenge – climbing the most dangerous mountain and the world’s second-highest mountain, the K2 Base Camp.

Elected as Wonder Woman for Imran Khan Cancer Appeal, Tasneem Habib, also known as Taz, has taken on one challenge after another.

Global Oncology Director for AstraZeneca continues her fundraising quest in aid of the Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA). Her challenge won’t just be the trek either as she has set herself the target to raise £5,000 in sponsorship money for her July 2023 trek.

Tasneem has been on a mission to raise funds for the charity for a number of years. Her daredevil activities have included: completing the Everest base camp trek, Skydiving at Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, reaching Killer Mountain’s base camp, tackling the gruelling Rush Peak and completing the World’s Longest Zip Line (Ras Al Khaimah, UAE).

In December of 2021, Taz took part in one of her most rewarding and fulfilling acts. Invited to open a room in her name at the Shaukat Khan Memorial Cancer Hospital in Khyber Pukthunkwa, the ceremony saw her cutting a ribbon after funds were raised by her for this very room. To this day, a plaque stands in this room bearing Taz’s name.

“The pandemic gave me a break and allowed for me to enjoy some of the UK’s beautiful countryside and peaks – Ben Nevis and Snowdon,” Tasneem said.

Tasneem is ready once again to take on another challenge. With a halt in her fundraising activities, Taz believes that its about time to restart her globetrotting charity endeavours. Hoping to conquer K2 this year, Taz intends to use the funds to continue providing free diagnosis and treatment for underprivileged cancer patients.

“Recruiting locals and your loved ones to support the charity brings immense pleasure and I have managed to convince my husband Imran Ishaq to join me this time round. Training is fun and motivating when there are two of you, and we are racing to see who will get to their fundraising target first!”

She added: “The 16-day trek will see temperatures drop from 30 degrees to -10, eight hours of trekking per day, with an average elevation gain of 320 metres on tough terrain with rough stones and crevasses.

“We will also be sleeping in ice at Baltoro Glacier, all of which will make this trek one of the gruelling challenges I have completed so far.”
