Devon

Telegraph travel experts put Devon at the top of the list when determining England’s best county, and for good reason! With an abundance of natural beauty, Devon is unlike anything you’ve seen in England. Located in the South West of England, Devon is home to splendid beaches, quaint antique shops, rolling hills and World Heritage sites. The lack of urbanisation has meant that the county has retained much of its former glory – an aspect which lures visitors from far and wide.

Cumbria

Cumbria comes in second place as it’s the closest thing to perfection. Located in the North East of England, Cumbria is a place you have to visit at least once in your lifetime. With crisp and clean air, awe-inspiring landscapes, mountainous surroundings and the world’s best lakes, it’s no wonder why many see themselves returning for round two.

North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire is hands down the best part of Yorkshire county. Home to splendid villages, towns and cities, North Yorkshire is replete with historic castles, waterfalls, and greenery that stretches for miles. Spend a day in the dramatic town of Whitby or admire the longest medieval wall in York. For some inspiring views, make your way to Sutton Bank from where you can admire the impressive landscape.

It’s easy to see why many escape to the county of Norfolk which has been described as the perfect place for a British break! Norwich – the county’s only city – is the perfect place to transport you back in time. With serpentine cobbled streets and ancient monuments, Norwich is a history-lovers paradise. With bustling markets, beautiful gardens, and an unspoilt coastline, Norfolk should be on all our bucket lists!
