Amman may be expensive, but there’s a way to keep costs low

Amman was recorded as the most expensive city in the Arab world, according to the Economist Intelligent Unit. What’s more, it was also ranked as the 29th most expensive city in the world! Ranking higher in costs when compared with Madrid, Miami and Beijing, those who want to visit Amman may find it a tricky place to navigate if on a budget. 

But don’t let that put you off! Here are a few tricks and tips you could follow to make the most of the city without loosening your purse strings all the time.

Leave The Hotel & Stay Local

If you’re thinking of visiting Amman, remember that there’s no need to stay in a hotel. For non-food items, head over to the Friday market where you can buy all your souvenirs at cheaper prices.

Summer can be the most expensive time to visit Amman. Come winter, crowds are smaller, accommodation prices drop and tour guides drop their costs. Although it can be snowy or rainy in the winter, it can be cheaper if you’re willing to make a few tweaks to your itinerary. Pack well and ensure you rack up on the layers. 

Take Part In Free Activities

You can visit mosques, walk the famous Rainbow Street and take part in a run with Running Amman. Head over to Diwan Al Due to rewind time and appreciate the city’s history. Alternatively, visit the many mosques that boast imposing and majestic architecture. There are also several art galleries you can visit for free such as Nabad Art Gallery and Salam Kanaan Gallery. The city is also home to beautiful parks such as Al Hussein Park. Come here to get away from it all and watch the locals as they take their walk of the day.
