Everything You Need To Know About The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

After 70 years of service, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. Although the anniversary date for this was 6th February, it has been decided that the momentous occasion will be celebrated from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June. Many around the country will be celebrating this great achievement by watching the moment on big screens, hosting BBQs and organising ‘Big Lunches’. It’s estimated that more than 70,000 ‘Big Lunches’ are planned to take place up and down the country as well as big screens set up in main cities for many to watch.

“In less than a month, we will come together as a nation and Commonwealth to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s 70-year reign. No other British monarch has reached this milestone and we will celebrate it with tradition, pomp and circumstance. I hope that people and communities across the country will come together to pay tribute to Her Majesty – whether that be to watch on big screens or toasting Her Majesty at a Big Jubilee Lunch with their neighbours or coming together in their local village hall” says Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries.

With the events planned to take place over the course of the first weekend of June, there will be an extended bank holiday weekend. This will give many across the UK the chance to take time off from work and school to celebrate a one-of-a-kind achievement.

Sunday 5th June

Up and down the country, there will be thousands of ‘Big Jubilee Lunches’ taking place to celebrate the Queen’s reign.
