Chocolate truffles make the perfect Eid gift- Recipe

Do you want to make your friends and family feel special this Eid?  Then why not give them a handmade gift?  Not only will it eliminate the pressure of thinking about what to buy, it will also save time spent on shopping and even overspending.

There’s also nothing more uplifting than receiving a special gift that’s been made just for you.  Something that someone you care for has put their heart and soul into and personalised.   Particularly now in an age when most of us have too much, there isn’t a more perfect opportunity to be mindful about the gifts that you give.

Having a young family myself, I understand that creating anything handmade can be quite time consuming particularly at Eid, with all the preparations and special prayers that we commit ourselves too.  But, fret not, I’ve got an easy, no bake recipe for you.  It won’t take too long but it is sure to impress. Children can also get involved.  And chocolate too, need I say more?

Chocolate Truffles (add optional base flavours or toppings to personalise further)

What you need

Chocolate 200grms

Double cream 90ml

1tsp Butter (to grease hands when forming balls)

Optional base flavours

Mint

Lemon

A clementine

Cinnamon

Almond extract

Vanilla essence

Peanut butter

Rose water

Coating suggestions

Cocoa powder

Chopped nuts

Sprinkles

Desiccated coconut

Chocolate truffles

How to make it

  1. Pour the cream into a saucepan and lightly simmer, stirring whilst on the stove (don’t bring to the boil or mixture will separate later). If you are using an optional base flavour then add it at this stage (no more than a teaspoon)
  2. Chop your chocolate into small pieces.
  3. Pour the simmered cream whilst warm into a heatproof bowl, fold in the chocolate to make a ganache.  If the chocolate doesn’t melt then put the bowl over a pan of simmering water and gently stir.
  4. Allow the ganache to cool and then spread into a shallow dish and fridge for an hour or two.  For best results, leave this overnight.
  5. Once chilled roll these into balls.  I like to use a teaspoon or even an ice cream scoop to ensure that the balls are approximately the same size.  Shape into balls quickly as too much time in between warm hands can lead to the chocolate melting.  Wet hands or grease hands with butter in between rolling to prevent mixture from sticking to your hands.
  6. Once formed, coat the balls into a coating of your choice.
  7. Keep the truffles chilled until you are ready to gift.

You can gift wrap with homemade tags and in favour bags or boxes.  This year I’m opting for brown recyclable boxes, which can easily be found on Amazon or in Hobbycraft.

Eid Mubarak!
