Microblading queen Suman Jalaf reveals how to get the best results

Microblading is one of the fastest growing trends in the beauty industry – what is it? Is it a cosmetic tattoo?

Suman: It is a semi-permanent treatment in which feather-light strokes are made into the epidermis layer of the skin. These small strokes create a new, more defined brow, custom made for a person’s face, with the colour that matches their eyebrows. Microblading enhances an existing brow shape, or can create a completely new shape. It is also perfect for filling gaps without the use of makeup.

What is the process and how long does it take?

Suman: A consultation and skin test is carried out prior to the appointment. On the day a client is with us for approximately two hours. The brows are thoroughly numbed with an EMLA cream over the first hour and the treatment is carried out during the second hour. Then 6-10 weeks later a retouch Microblading is scheduled to perfect the brows.

How long does it last?

After the retouch session, and depending on how oily or dry the skin is, the treatment can last from 12 to 18 months.

Do you have to be a certain age to get it done?

A client must be 18 years of age to have Microblading done.

Are there any side effects?

A skin test is vital prior to the treatment, as well as filling out an extensive consultation form to identify any allergies. After the microblading procedure, and for at least one week afterwards, a person’s eyebrows might appear to be darker. They may also feel sharper due to scabbing and healing.  This mild discomfort is normal as your skin heals and adjusts.

Does it hurt?

The area is thoroughly numbed beforehand so the process shouldn’t be too painful; however this differs from client to client. It is normal to have some mild discomfort.

Why get the procedure done?

Microblading is revolutionary for achieving perfect brows that enhance facial features. The end result is soft, flawless and naturally beautiful eyebrows with a shape that is bespoke to each face. It also requires little to be done to them afterwards, as there is no need to fill them in or have them constantly tinted.

What does one need to do as any aftercare?

You need to avoid direct contact with hot water, exercise or going to the gym for at least 10 days. Brows can be cleansed once or twice a day with an antibacterial soap such as Dial, Cetaphil or Neutrogena, but you must avoid unnecessary water contact and lengthy hot showers. A light coating of coconut oil will soothe the brow area as the skin starts to scab.

How much does it cost?

The Microblading with Suman costs £600 and with our other artists it is £450. Included in the price is the 6 -10 weeks retouch session.
